Hello everyone!
The First Annual Albany Friends Of Opal’s Park (afoop.com) Block Party will be held Saturday August 26, 2006. We will close the block of Dartmouth Street between Talbot and Cornell from noon – 7pm. Everyone on the afoop.com list is welcome to participate and attend.
We have a small band of trouble-makers who have already signed up for duty. We would love to increase this group so if you are interested, please give us a shout.
We want this party to be extremely kid-friendly. The Robert’s will rent a Jumpie Castle to host in their back yard. We will have face-painting, water balloons, water toys, and possibly a magic show. Margaret (margeret@yvod.com) and Jules (jules@kobelin.com) are in charge of organizing party favors and kiddie events.
Kent (kent@kobelin.com) is in charge of organizing food and beverages. On the day of the party, all families should bring one dish (appetizer, salad, side or dessert). We will be grilling veggies and meat all day. We will have a plenty of non-alcoholic drinks (bring some if you wish) along with a few kegs of beer and pre-mixed alcoholic drinks.
We are planning to have a sound stage of some kind so folks who want to plug-in can hold a jam session or two. Laurie (wongroberts@sbcglobal.net) and Ulan (ulan@yvod.com) are in charge of music.
We are in need of tables, chairs and canopies. Sidewalk chalk/paint would be very nice as well. If you have friends who would like to perform (music, song, kid-events, etc) please encourage them to get in touch with us. Dan Baer (dannybaer@yahoo.com) is in charge of getting all supplies in order.
The costs so far are $175 (permit) and $145 (Jumpie Castle) for $305 total. We are asking all families to donate $20 if they wish to help defer the costs. We will use everything over $305 to buy grill stuff and beer. We estimate the cost of these items to run $200-300. To gather $600 we need 30 families to fund the party.
