Here are even more AFOOP Block Party pix. The First Annual Albany Friends Of Opal’s Park (afoop.com) Block Party will be held Saturday August 26, 2006. We will close Dartmouth Street between Talbot and Cornell from 12 noon ’til at least 7pm. Everyone on the afoop.com list is welcome to participate and attend. Please feel free to invite friends. We are an active group so please wear something to run around in and you may even get wet. We are providing bar-b-q and beer. We’d love it if you would bring a side dish, dessert or beverage but do not feel obligated. In an effort to decrease our impact on the planet and reduce waste, we encourage you to bring your own cups, plates and utensils. A few of the planned stuff: Face painting Hope to see you there! =) The Gravenstein Apple Fair Website “Every August Ragle Ranch Park in Sebastopol, California provides the beautiful location for an annual celebration of Sonoma County agriculture. The Gravenstein Apple Fair, sponsored by Sonoma County Farm Trails, showcases the best in arts, crafts, food, wines and brews, games, entertainment and farm life activities.” We love this thing. We try to go every year and when we make it we bask in the glow for many, many moons. It runs from 10-6pm on Saturday and 10-5pm on Sunday. Hello one and all, I have been thinking that a single sit-down with everyone who wants to help throw the party may be in order. Wednesday, August 2 @ 6:30pm is the date. Meet in front of our house for a half hour or so to help plan the event. Bring your kids and have them play at the park or with Max. Some things to discuss: Money (always fun) Margaret thinks we should ask folks to bring their own cutlery, plates and cups. Each family could supply their guests. 1) It saves money 2) It is environmentally friendly 3) Less trash to deal with 4) Everyone enjoys eating off their own plates – I added that one ;) Hello everyone! The First Annual Albany Friends Of Opal’s Park (afoop.com) Block Party will be held Saturday August 26, 2006. We will close the block of Dartmouth Street between Talbot and Cornell from noon – 7pm. Everyone on the afoop.com list is welcome to participate and attend. We have a small band of trouble-makers who have already signed up for duty. We would love to increase this group so if you are interested, please give us a shout. We want this party to be extremely kid-friendly. The Robert’s will rent a Jumpie Castle to host in their back yard. We will have face-painting, water balloons, water toys, and possibly a magic show. Margaret (margeret@yvod.com) and Jules (jules@kobelin.com) are in charge of organizing party favors and kiddie events. Kent (kent@kobelin.com) is in charge of organizing food and beverages. On the day of the party, all families should bring one dish (appetizer, salad, side or dessert). We will be grilling veggies and meat all day. We will have a plenty of non-alcoholic drinks (bring some if you wish) along with a few kegs of beer and pre-mixed alcoholic drinks. We are planning to have a sound stage of some kind so folks who want to plug-in can hold a jam session or two. Laurie (wongroberts@sbcglobal.net) and Ulan (ulan@yvod.com) are in charge of music. We are in need of tables, chairs and canopies. Sidewalk chalk/paint would be very nice as well. If you have friends who would like to perform (music, song, kid-events, etc) please encourage them to get in touch with us. Dan Baer (dannybaer@yahoo.com) is in charge of getting all supplies in order. The costs so far are $175 (permit) and $145 (Jumpie Castle) for $305 total. We are asking all families to donate $20 if they wish to help defer the costs. We will use everything over $305 to buy grill stuff and beer. We estimate the cost of these items to run $200-300. To gather $600 we need 30 families to fund the party. Please give cash and checks to Laurie (wongroberts@sbcglobal.net). You can donate online here: http://yvod.com/payments.html. Please indicate in the comments that the funds are to go to the afoop party. Fun in the sun… what more could we ask for? Please join us for a great party of friends and family. Syrup: Mix approx 7 parts selzer to one part syrup. Candied Ginger: Many don’t know that a house once stood on the site of the tot lot. Opal, the owner, loved children so much that she left her property to the children of Albany for the establishment of a park. Although the City now calls the park the Dartmouth Tot Lot, its original name was Staniek Tot Lot, after Opal. (There was a plaque at the corner which was removed by request of the family.) In honor of her dedication to our community, those of us in the neighborhood continue to call the tot lot Opal’s Park. A brief history of AFOOP:Winter and Spring, 2003 – We had a huge turnover in our neighborhood – many wonderful families moved in, all with young children (to the great excitement of those of us already here.) Late Spring, 2003 – Our first-ever block party was planned by Steve and Gail in honor of their daughter Leah. They invited neighbors to join in the planning.
July 5, 2003 – Leah-palooza was a huge hit! Great food, great music, and a great time were had by all! The event further cemented our community and our friendships. Summer and Fall, 2003 – We continued to informally gather to play at the park daily. As our kids played, we got to know each other much better. Winter, 2003 – As the weather turned cold and rainy, we stayed in touch, making it official by the establishment of AFOOP in December. You can contact us at AFOOP anytime!
Hey Everyone, Come and celebrate Jenny’s second little surprise. This is going to be a fun “adult women only” time with great food and even better company (no kids or male partners to this bash). Jenny says not to bring gifts since they already have everything, so I’m thinking that if you do want to bring a gift, how about bringing something for Jenny herself?!? Think what a woman with two kids is going to need to keep herself sane, beautiful and happy. Please reply directly to me or sign up at the Evite.com page I made. Thanx =) 4 cups peeled, sliced peaches -Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. |
