The McKnight’s and the Donovan’s plan to get to the park early on Friday. Everyone is welcome to join us. The drive from Albany is an easy 45-60 minutes. The park is 15 miles west of San Rafael on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. After a bunch of discussion, we chose this park for a number of reasons.

1) It is close.

The proximity allows people to join us for the day if they wish. It also means that if a family is having a rough time, they can easily break camp and be home in an hour. For those who are new to camping, this should make joining us an easier decision.

2) That park is beautiful!

Everyone who has been camped at the park amazing stories about the child-friendly creek and wonderful scenery.

3) GREAT campsites.

For those who have done a bit of camping, you appreciate the benefits of a good campsite. Samuel P. has some of the best sites of any near-by park.

4) Availability.

Thanks to Rochelle and Bob, we know that very few campsites are available in the near future. We would like to try something close and easy for our first trip. If this goes well, we can go further afield next time. The closer parks are mostly filled. This one was reserved almost every weekend through the summer. Friday was free so we jumped on it.

—-

Originally planned as a way to introduce the Donovan’s and (possibly) the Baer’s to the joys of family camping, we hope that everyone will consider joining us. The McKnight’s have been family car camping since Max was 6 months old. He loves it. We can not recommend it enough. Max has so much fun and sleeps soooooo well.

The park is close enough that it is easy for folks to visit for even part of the day and stay for dinner. It is great fun to see children eating out in the woods. Imagine the campfire and the peals of laughter as they explore the “Great Outdoors.” If you do not want to stay the night, try to join us for a cup of hot chocolate as the sun goes down. Your children will surely sleep on the way home, wrapped in memories of fun with friends amongst the Giant Redwoods of California.

We are happy to help neophytes borrow equipment. As the date draws near, we plan to have lively discussions on food choices. Excellent healthy meals can be made in a short time with a minimum of fuss. And there really is nothing like that nice libation after the kids have fallen asleep and the fire dies down to the glow of embers… Snuggle into your warm blanket and tilt your head back to observe the stars. This is what life is all about…

Sounds to me like a great way to start your Labor Day Weekend =)

—-

Feel free to reserve your own campsite if you wish. Our current two-campsite reservations should allow for at least three more families to stay the night. Hope to see you there. Reply directly to Rochelle Donovan or me if you would like more information.
